Diamond Capsule Hotel Amsterdam South, hotel in Amstelveen

Diamond Capsule Hotel Amsterdam South is located in Amstelveen, within 5 km of Amsterdam RAI and 5.3 km of Vondelpark.

The "capsule" room was amazing! It has almost everything a single traveller needs for a comfortable stay. Individual AC / heating unit means you can control temperature and air flow, so the fact that there's no window didn't bother me at all. (It felt a little stuffy when I first arrived, but only needed a minute or two with the AC on to air it out.) The hotel itself is very, very strange. You need to go through a number of security doors to get to your room, and once there, it feels very private. This hotel was a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't recommend it for couples trips, but for one person, it was a great alternative to expensive options in the centre of town. Once you've walked out (see the "minuses" section), it's one easy tram to Museumplein and other central attractions. ALSO one easy tram to Station Zuid, which offers a six-minute connection to the airport. Under 45 minutes to/from the airport to the tram stop, and easier than some other places I've stayed more centrally. But then you have to walk in from the tram! (see below)

Amstelveen is a lovely wee place but being only 20 mins by car from Amsterdam centre you’ll want to go there. Amstelveen has local shops and amenities needed but there’s not a great deal to do in the area and not within walking distance.

The hotel was conveniently located near a tram station.

The hotel was conveniently located near a tram station. It was an easy ride into town. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet. About a 10 minute walk down the street is a strip mall with some restaurants. We tried the kabob place while waiting to check in. It wasn't too bad. There is also a coffeeshop/gelato shop located there. That' the best part of the mall.

Very convenient location close to the airport with bus transportation right outside the property gates. Amstelveen looked like a lovely little town. Unfortunately we arrived late at night and had to leave first thing in the morning so did not have the opportunity to check out the area, restaurants, and night life.

You hardly see the next recommendation: walk up to the Kalfjeslaan and turn right, walking eastward (look it up on Google maps). Walk all the way to the Amstel river and where you hit the river turn right (or have a cup of coffee and a portion "bitterballen" before you go on at the Kleine Kalfje =Small Calf), walk along the river and enjoy this typically Dutch landscape. Turn right at Machineweg MP until you hit Amstelveen again. This is a wonderful walk with sun or drizzle, not that much when it is raining.

Location is pretty good, it's close to the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam Forest), which is a very nice area for walks during the summer, there are also some restaurants and grocery stores around. It's easy to get to the nearest tram/metro station (Kronenburg) where you can buy tickets (including one day ticket), go to Amsterdam Zuid, and subsequently to the city centre.

Does what it says on the box. You have a room, a bed and a hot shower with good pressure. Room was small but not cramped. Commute to and from the airport was easy using a combination of tram and train. The same tram also takes you up into Amsterdam city centre. We only stayed one night as we had a long layover and it was perfect for that purpose.

The rooms are huge and clean. Good choice at breakfast. Commute to Amsterdam quite straightforward, 10 mins walk to tram station. The number 25 tram takes you to Zuid metro station in about 25 minutes. The hotel sells the travel cards which is 7 euros for 24 hrs. There is a covered parking at back of the hotel.

Cheap and not too long of a commute to the city centre of Amsterdam(30 mins or so) and not far from the airport. Lidl is across the street for cheap drinks. Get a room with a private bathroom. Wouldn't be suited for someone who can't walk stairs. Nice bar food. I give the hotel a 3/5.
