Essaouira has developed from a hippie hangout to become a top Morocco beach resort with good surfing conditions. Its 18th-century medina is almost European in feel and narrow streets lead under low arches past fragrant spice stalls and local artisans selling everything from wood carvings to faience pottery.
Dotted around the souk are many traditional-style riads on Booking.com, hidden behind tiled façades and blue doors. Other Essaouira accommodation options include luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap apartments, and B&Bs near Essaouira Airport.
Also bright blue are the rowing boats bobbing gently in small harbours sheltered by the Scala of the Port, a wide walkway with ramparts through which several historic cannons poke out. At the end is the Citadel, a small fortress overlooking Mogador Island - the largest of the Iles Purpuraires, so-called for the purple shells found in their rocks that were once used to produce dyes for Roman senator togas.
Another fortress – Bordj El Berod – lies in pieces on the long, sandy beach south of the marina. In the opposite direction the coastline is more rocky and lined by the Scala of the Kasbah, the crenellated walls protecting the medina. Horseriding and camel safaris are available on the beach and you can also visit a Berber village inland.

great city, nice medina it is more comfortable than the one in Marrakesh since there is no car and moto traffic, the beach is vast , clean. Fish market is amazing, must see. You can buy any fish there , get it cleaned and grilled. The are street markets in the center and very decent Carrefour supermarket with paper bags only. It is easy to park anywhere outside medina . The city is walkable , illuminated at night, it feels save to me to walk around. Just for roads crossing one should be careful - the drivers dont stop until pedestrian starts crossing. The city is clean enough compared to other cities we have seen ( like El Jadida or smaller cities in between).I like that plastic bottles are not seen in the streets - they are returned for some fees and thus collected.

Not as ‘hip’ as I’d expected but still worth visiting for the old town and souks. Nice walk along the beach and some good restaurants. Great horse ride along the beach but take care to book a reputable stable.

Essaouira is a relatively small, compact, ancient, traditional Moroccan city. Narrow alleyways and traditional architecture. Cafes, stalls etc. An interesting fishing boat filled harbour with animated action, fish gutting, cooking, selling etc. City walls and fortresses to explore. Friendly non hassling people. Much more relaxing than Marrakech, whilst still having exotic ambiance. Inumerable restaurants serving good food at reasonable prices. You can walk from one side of the city to the other in 15 minutes (if you don't lose yourself in the maze!) This was a former 'hippy' hangout and it is easy to understand why.

Lovely old medina and fishing port just a short walk along the promenade. If you explore the alleyways away from the shops you will come across workshops where the local products are being handcrafted.

What a wonderful city!
What a wonderful city! Beaming with actual local craft and art, lots of cute street cats and beautiful colourful houses with intricately decorated doors, windows and fountains. We fell in love with this small city and would love to go back.
Pro Tip if you like cats: buy some vet cat food and walk around the city with it because those creatures will break your heart with their cuteness.
I would recommend spending at least two days there. Get lost in the small streets to the sides from the main shopping areas. Visit the fish market, eat fresh oysters or other sea products. The beach was nice and serves as a great refreshment after long walks in Medina.
Shopping was great and cheap but I would still recommend learning the actual prices first. For example, we got small tiles for 10dhs but in other places we’re getting prices like 50 or 30. Don’t be afraid to walk away and negotiate a bit. Especially if it is not the master themselves selling but a reseller. You can usually find actual masters on the smaller side streets (especially for wood and fabrics). I also noticed that women have fair prices more often.
Food. Amazing street food and fruits! Don’t go to overpriced restaurants on tourist streets, unless they have a “menu” offer which can be worth the price. Otherwise, if you just take a detour from the main hustle, there will be tangine not for 80dhs but for 30. The food is also way cheaper outside of Medina.
Had a great time here! The hotel is in an excellent location to explore Essaouira. The rooms are cute and clean. A special shout out to Hamid, who was managing the hotel when I was there. I arrived late from Marrakech after the laundry services were closed for the day and Hamid offered to bring them to his home, wash them, and bring them back in the next morning. The extra care he showed made the trip worthwhile and I'd definitely recommend this Riad to anyone traveling to Essaouira!
Location is excellent.
Concern and care from the staff, advising of places to visit and to familiarize when we arrived. Adaption of breakfast to our travel plans the morning we left. They have a restaurant that is associated to the property which is outstanding!! One of the best meals we ever had and they made the effort to accommodate us because we were staying at the hotel. We also appreciated that the restaurant was pushed on us as an option but suggested.
Perfect location. Lovely quiet street, but easy walking distance to all amenities. The hotel and room were beautiful (much better than the pictures). The breakfast was delicious and all prepared fresh. The staff were on hand for anything you needed and the room was cleaned excellently every morning. The best hotel we've probably ever stayed in. We'd come back to Essaouira just for this hotel and it's incredible rooms, service, food and ambience. Stunning.
Very friendly small hotel just inside the city walls. Great for exploring the back streets and close to restaurants and the beach. Also easy walk to Supratours bus station.
Rooms are small but comfortable. Shower was good - even on the top floor - and I had a view out over the street. Nice breakfast on the terrace or outside the room.
Colourful decoration and quirky characterful place. Friendly staff on 24/7. Fine for a couple of nights.
With a great view of the ocean, this hotel is well worth staying at. We travelled in Morocco for a month, often staying in roads in medinas. By the time we went to Essaouira, we were tired of staying in busy areas. This hotel is just a 10 minute walk away from the Medina, so a nice break from the craziness.
They upgraded our room to a Seaview, which was greatly appreciated.
Super nice staff, a great room and a great experience.
First ever review and thought it was warranted, given I read many reviews on this resort and wasn't sure myself about booking. The Hotel is a bit dated but you get 5 star service, the staff couldn't do enough for you. Exceptionally well located, sea view was stunning. The hotel beach area is perfect, well staffed comfortable bed/loungers and good food.
For what you pay I think overall great hotel.
The location of the hotel is just amazing. Close to the medina and the beach at the same time.
Parking is free of charge and in the hotel.
The view was an outstanding point.
We had to meet with the Director Mr Bennani whom we found amazingly professional and helpful.
He welcomed us properly and even proposed to upgrade our bookings after a misunderstanding with what we booked via Booking.
Surpassed my expectations! The apartment is superbly clean and well equipped.
I appreciate how the hosts were helpful and advising when needed.
The location is great, short to walk to reach the beach, the restaurants and shops were even closer.
I would definitely choose it again for my next trip to Essaouira.
This is a lovely riad. We had a wonderful stay here. The rooms are comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful.
The restaurant is very good as well. The location close to the beach was very nice. We walked to the medina many times from the hotel. It is a longish walk but lovely along the beach.
Excellent authentic hotel in the Medina. The hotel is very nicely decorated. The staff is very supportive and caring. The breakfast on the terrace is delicious. The room is very cosy with a great attention to details. The hotel is easy to find and is located not far from the beach. We do recommend this place!
The hotel is new, designed decorated, extremely clean and comfortable, the rooms are big. The staff is very professional and polite and the breakfast excellent. Nice roof top with sea view, perfect place between the entrance of the medina and the beach.
Beautiful small hotel. Rooms are decorated with great taste in gorgeous traditional Moroccan style. Well located.Very close to the beach and port/medina. We loved Essaouira and enjoyed our stay. Will definitely come back as soon as possible.
A stunning Riad, beautiful architecture and associated art. We had the top room with its own pool, a luxury treat in its own league. The staff are exceptional. The hotel gives a sense of a bright, go ahead future for the region. Go there!
Fantastic arrangement , feels like a 5 star palace ...beautiful gardens and pool area , super comfortable bed and so quiet and wonderful. Best food you could imagine ...wonderful friendly hosts and staff
the property is so beautiful and we loved the location - you just walk right across the beach for about 20 minutes to get to the Old Town. right by the hotel (on the beach) are the camel and horse rides.
Fantastic visual experience. Tranquil grounds and a great pool. Philippe the owner and his staff were absolutely the best! This small gem of a hotel outshines all the rest in Essaouira.
Location was a short walk to shopping and restaurants in Essaouira, as well as to the beach. Full breakfast served every morning. Manager and Staff was helpful and friendly.
Great hotel, well located in the medina, in a quiet area.
Sweet owner and staff, with honestly the best breakfast I had in Morocco with homemade products.
